The Whole Rabbit
The weekly occult podcast diving into the deep end of mythology, high-strangeness and religion. A show for seekers upon the path and wanderers of the outer abyss. Where others stay surface level, we go deep into the rabbit holes of demonolatry, chaos magick, gnosticism Thelema, Aleister Crowley, fallen angels, the ars goetia, MKULTRA, the black cross of Saturn and of course Ancient Egypt.

In this week’s episode we take the first step on the journey through The Hero of a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell and discuss, with nerd-like passion, the nuance surrounding each specific stage of the hero's journey as explained in the text. For a podcast that geeks out about symbolism; it doesn’t get much more bread and butter than this. In the free side of the show we make it through the first four stages of the heroes journey: The Mundane World, The Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call and Supernatural Aid; touching upon the variety (or lack thereof) you can expect in each stage while using mythology both modern and classic as guide posts along the way. In the extended show we discuss Crossing the Threshold, the tremendous ordeal of being swallowed within the Belly of the Whale and the laundry list of trials each hero faces on their path to either Mordor or tax season. Thank you and enjoy the show.
DISCLAIMER:
I think we need to clear up some confusion. First of all, I’m very tired. Secondly, I’m very tired. Thirdly, the book we’re studying, Hero with a Thousand Faces is by Joseph Campbell but is BASED upon Carl Jung’s ideas of the collective unconscious, the archetypes and the path to individuation by interaction with. When you’re manically alternating between exhaustion and manic excitement it's easy to get the Cs and Js confused ok?? That being said, Jung is quoted numerous times throughout the text. At this point just assume we’ve mixed up the names a number of times during this specific recording. My apologies. I'll sleep when I'm dead.
In this week’s show we discuss:
-The World of the NPC: The Office, the Shire and Tatooine
-The Call to Adventure: Neo, Barbie and Danny from the Shining
-Refusal of the Call: King Minos, Cypher and Luke Skywalker
-Supernatural Aid: Morphes, Beatrice of Dante’s Inferno, Weird Barbie
-Magickal Black-Man Tropes
In the extended show available at www.patreon.com/TheWholeRabbit we go further down the heroes rabbit hole (gross) and discuss:
-Crossing the Threshold: Walking Through the Mirror, Entering the Temple, Vagina Dentata
-The Belly of the Whale: Being Pilled, The Trash Compactor, Jonah
-The Road of Trials: John Wick, Hercules, Pan’s Labrynth and Alice in Wonderland.
This episode was written by Luke Madrid in collaboration with Tim Hacker who wrote the skeleton of the schizo’s journey for each seventeen stages with commentaries. Additional commentaries by Mari Sama and Heka Astra.
